What a missed caller gets and where their replies go
When a call rings out, the caller gets a text from your business number in under 5 seconds, and anything they text back lands on your cell as a normal text.
What happens on a missed call
- The call rings out. On the new-line setup, CallCovered rings your cell first (about 20 seconds); if you don't answer, that is the missed call. On the forwarding setup, your carrier sends the call over only after you didn't answer.
- The caller gets your text-back, in your words. With the default message it reads:
Hi, this is Mike's Plumbing - sorry we missed your call! We're on a job right now. Reply here with what you need and we'll get right back to you. Reply STOP to opt out.
- You get a "MISSED CALL" text on your cell with the caller's number, telling you they just got your auto-text and that your reply goes to them.
- If voicemail to text is on, the caller can leave a message. See "Voicemail to text".
Landline callers can't receive texts, so they don't get one. A caller who texted STOP to your number earlier gets no text-back; your alert tells you to call them instead.

Every reply goes out from your business number, never your cell. Customers only ever see your business number, on texts and on calls you make with CALL. Photos work both ways. If a text to a customer can't be delivered, we text you why.
Follow-ups (Lead Rescue). If a missed caller never writes back, they get up to two short follow-up texts, about an hour and about a day after the call. Follow-ups only go out between 8am and 8pm. The moment the caller replies, the rest are cancelled. There is never a third.
People who text your number directly. Anyone who texts your CallCovered number, not just missed callers, reaches you the same way: the text lands on your cell and you reply from the same thread. On the forwarding setup, texts sent to your old number do not reach the system.
