Shopping for a missed-call text-back? Ask these first.
Most text-back services promise the same three things: keep your number, no app, built for the trades. The differences are in the fine print. What does the first year really cost? Where do the replies go? What happens after the first text? Here are the questions to ask any of them, with our answers next to each.
A low monthly price can grow once you add a setup fee, a charge per text, a fee for the phone number and carrier registration passed through to you. Add it all up for twelve months before you compare.
CallCovered
Self-Serve is $129/mo with no setup fee: $1,548 for the year, or $1,290 if you prepay the year. Done-For-You is $149/mo plus $99 once. The number is included.
Do I pay per text, or more in a busy month?
Metered texting costs the most in exactly the months you're too busy to answer the phone.
CallCovered
No per-text charges, and every feature on this page is included. The price is the same however many calls you miss.
Who handles carrier registration, and is it included?
US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration for business texting. Unregistered texts get filtered or blocked. Some services bill it separately or leave the paperwork to you.
CallCovered
Your first filing is part of the plan. You fill in a short form and we file it. On Done-For-You we check it and your website before it goes in.
Is there a contract, and what if it doesn't work?
A year-long contract on a tool you haven't tried puts all the risk on you.
CallCovered
Month to month, cancel any time. If it captures zero missed-call leads in your first 30 days live, your first month is refunded on request (on Done-For-You, the setup fee instead; on a prepaid term, the whole prepayment). Call forwarding must be set up and working, one refund per customer, full terms in section 6 of our Terms.
Your number and your phone
Can I keep the number on my truck?
Changing your advertised number throws away every call that number already brings in.
CallCovered
Yes. Your carrier forwards only the calls you don't answer. Calls you pick up never touch us. Or use your new CallCovered number as your main line.
Which number does the text come from?
A customer should be able to reach you back on whatever number texted them, and get you.
CallCovered
Your CallCovered number, a local number in the area code you pick. If you forward, that's a second local number, not the one they dialed, and every text and call-back after that comes from it, so the customer has one number that always reaches you.
Where do the customer's replies go?
If replies land in an app or a web inbox, somebody has to remember to check it. On a job site, nobody does.
CallCovered
Straight to your cell as a normal text. Answer it like any other text and it goes back from your business number. Your cell number stays private.
Do I have to download an app or log in?
Software the crew has to open every day is software that stops getting opened.
CallCovered
No. Everything works by text from the phone you already carry. There's a dashboard if you want to look at your numbers, with no password to remember.
What happens after the first text
How fast does the first text go out?
A caller who doesn't hear back calls the next name on the list. Some services take a minute or more, so ask for the number in writing.
CallCovered
Under 5 seconds after the call goes unanswered.
What if the caller never writes back?
Plenty of callers read the first text and forget about it.
CallCovered
Up to two short follow-up texts, and they stop the moment the caller replies. Never a third.
What if they leave a voicemail?
A voicemail you don't hear until tonight is a job somebody else got this afternoon.
CallCovered
It's written out and texted to you, with a link to play it.
Can I call them back without giving out my cell?
Once a customer has your cell, they call it at all hours.
CallCovered
Text CALL. Your phone rings, you press 1, and they see your business number.
Can it send reminders and payment links?
No-shows and slow payments cost you as much as missed calls.
CallCovered
Text REMIND Tue 2pm and they get a reminder before the visit. Text PAY 350 and they get your own payment link. The money goes straight to you.
Does it ask for Google reviews, and does it ask everyone?
Google doesn't allow asking only your happy customers. A tool that screens out low ratings before sending the review link puts your listing at risk.
CallCovered
Text REVIEW with their number and first name. Every customer gets your Google review link, whatever rating they give.
What about nights, weekends and days off?
A caller at 9pm should hear when you'll be back, not just silence.
CallCovered
A separate after-hours text on your own hours. Text AWAY Mon 8am for a day off, or PAUSE to stop the auto-texts until you text RESUME.
Does the text sound like you, or like a bot?
Some tools have AI write the replies. Customers can tell.
CallCovered
It's the message you write, sent word for word. When they reply, the conversation is with you, not a bot.
Rules and support
What happens when somebody texts STOP?
Texting someone who opted out puts your number's standing with the carriers at risk.
CallCovered
They get nothing more from your number. You get told, and if you try to text them, nothing is sent and we tell you to call instead.
Who do I call when something's off?
A ticket queue doesn't help when your phone line is the problem.
CallCovered
A real person at (702) 605-4550.

When something else is the better pick
We'd rather you buy the right thing than buy us and cancel.
You want the phone answered by a voice
If callers need a conversation mid-call, or you want jobs booked before the caller hangs up, an answering service or a voice receptionist does something we don't.
Your crew already lives in a CRM that does this
If you pay for field-service software with a text-back built in and your crew uses it every day, use it. You've already paid for it.
You want a bot to book the job by text
If you want AI to carry on the text conversation and put the job on your calendar, that's a different kind of tool. Ours sends your words, then hands the conversation to you.
You only want the first text, at the lowest price
Bare text-back tools exist for less. What you give up is everything after the first text: follow-ups, voicemail to text, review requests, call-backs from your business number, reminders and payment links.

Comparing services
Their prices and features change without notice, and we won't publish something out of date about someone else's business. Take the questions on this page to any service you're looking at and get their answers in writing.
Because $129/mo covers more than the first text: follow-ups, voicemail to text, Google review requests, calling customers back from your business number, reminders, payment links, the Monday summary and carrier registration. Price out what those cost elsewhere, add any setup and per-text fees, and compare the whole year.
Call the live demo line, let it ring out, and watch the text land on your phone in seconds. After you sign up, the 30-day guarantee covers you: if it captures zero missed-call leads in your first 30 days live, your first month is refunded on request (on Done-For-You, the setup fee instead; on a prepaid term, the whole prepayment). Call forwarding must be set up and working.
If you forward missed calls today, switching is changing where they forward to, once your CallCovered number is ready to text. Keep your current service running until carrier registration clears and your first test text lands, then switch the forwarding over.
